This topic gives a systematic overview of battery-capacity monitoring in portable devices. It gives definitions for battery state-of-charge (SOC) at different rates of discharge and temperature and describes how gas-gauge indication accuracy can be measured. Three common SOC-monitoring methods — voltage correlation, current integration, and Impedance Track™ — are discussed along with their common hardware implementations. Implementation of capacity-indication circuits embedded in the battery or in the device is analyzed in relation to these three methods.
